GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH
The Biggar Museum and Gallery provides services for individuals looking for information about people who lived in and around the Biggar district.  The museum holds a wide range of obituaries, and birth and death announcements that have come out of Biggar's local newspaper, The Independent.  If what an individual is searching for is not within the collection, the museum also has The Independent on microfilm.  The museum's microfilm collection spans the years of 1909, when the paper was called the Biggar World, up until one year from the current year.  If what a client is looking for can be found on microfilm and an individual wishes to obtain a copy of the particular story or announcement, it is possible to obtain this for a minimal fee from the Saskatchewan Archives Board.

PHOTOGRAPHS
The museum also holds a wide collection of photographs that have been categorized and put into binders for ease of viewing.  Copies of these photographs may be made for a minimal fee, as the museum does have access to a laser printer.

VOLUNTEER WORK SPACE

We have a spacious volunteer work space that can be used by anyone for research purposes.
This space gives complete access to photocopying, micro fiche, and the internet, as required.

BIGGAR HERITAGE ALBUM
The Biggar Museum & Gallery and the Biggar Branch Saskatchewan Genealogical Society teamed up to create a Heritage Album of present and past families or individual of the Biggar Area.

Some families have lived in Biggar and area for several generations, or lived here awhile and moved onto other parts of the world, while others have only lived here the current generation. Anyone, who has lived in Biggar and area, be they businessmen, railroaders, school teachers, employees of Biggar businesses, retirees who retired to Biggar, or farmers in the area during the past 100 years are invited to submit their family history. These are on display at the Biggar Museum and Gallery.
.

You can still do a heritage page if you haven't done one already.
A fee of $25.00 will be charged for each heritage album page (one side of sheet) to cover project costs. The fee includes one heavyweight, ivory, acid-free sheet 19 1/2 inches by 25 1/2 inches, to mount items, a work sheet the size of an album page to use to organize materials before mounting items on album page, 5 sheets (letter size 8 1/2" x 11") of acid free paper for journalizing (for narrative and captions), and material to mount items on the album page. Additional letter size paper will be available at 10 cents each. One album page may not be enough for you to tell your family history. Additional album sheets can be purchased for $25.00.

Each family/individual history can be showcased using biographical sketches and family stories, photographs, documents and newspaper clippings. The photographs, documents and clippings will provide the visual picture and interest for the names, dates and places in your story (as shown in the sample pages).

We will look into all requests to the best of our ability.  Past requests have included general information about the town, Biggar and the railway, local businesses, individual family members, friends, various citizens of interest.  Should we be unable to find anything, alternate contacts will be provided.
